52 Prayers - Every Catholic Should Know

Anima Christi

The Anima Christi prayer is important because it is a heartfelt expression of devotion to Jesus Christ, often prayed after receiving the Eucharist. It seeks spiritual union with Christ, asking for purification, protection, and closeness to Him, especially in times of suffering or at the hour of death. The prayer reflects deep faith in Christ’s sacrifice and serves as a meditative way to deepen one’s love and trust in His saving power. Its rich imagery and themes of redemption, refuge, and eternal hope make it a cherished prayer in Catholic tradition.

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, embolden me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds hide me.
Never permit me to be parted from you.
From the evil Enemy defend me.
At the hour of my death call me
and bid me come to you,
that with your Saints I may praise you
for age upon age.

Amen.
